Umesh Gautam, the man behind Invertis Institute of Management studies, could not have been speaking a bigger truth, when a few years back writing in one of the in-house journals he said, "The beginning has been quite modest but the quality has startled many. The growth has been phenomenal and speaks eloquently of the future in store." Started in 1998, what he calls the Invertis movement, IIMS was established. An university of global standards, it caters to a varied bunch of disciplines, including Business, Technology, Law, Mass Communication, Medicine and Live Sciences. Looking at him one cannot but perceive, this man knows how to live life King Size. What strikes you is his total persona, the way he is turned out, talks and above all the surroundings that he has created around himself. The house of course has the imprint of his impeccable taste, the institute too could not have been better laid out. The infrastructure at the campus, starting from the multiple labs to the lobby, are straight out of style books, the scale akin to some international universities, further complemented by the well maintained adjoining open spaces and garden areas. It is truly a delight walking into Invertis.
Smart and dashing Umesh is to the point when asked to evaluate his climb up the success ladder. Unabashedly he attributes everything to his ability to take right decisions at the right time. "I don’t take hasty decisions, but I also do not wait when I feel that the time has come," he explains, going further on to say, "I don’t believe in thinking and visualizing in space. I believe in direct operations, I just believe in doing the best." Listening to him one feels he is like a one-man crack team out to conquer. "Second reason, what I feel, is that I continually reward the performance and loyalty of my team members." Very true. For the team anywhere, the bottomline after all is recognition. "There is great pleasure I find in recognizing the efforts of my crew. I award them for this and respect them for their passion. This makes them work as a synchronized group," he says, quite like one who knows what works best from experience.
It is the group that he cherishes the most in his life. So when he travels, it is also to survey and pick up patterns in any aspect relevant to it, prevalent elsewhere in the world. "People make money out of their organizations, I don’t," he confides. "I invest all of it back into the group so that my students may never feel they lack anything." Next comes a declaration. "I live for my group. It’s my passion. I even live on the campus so that I may keep a vigil on the goings on." The feelings get contagious, if they belong to the group leader and exactly the same is true with all of those associated with Umesh in running the group. The end result is there for all to see, particularly in the manner that placements happen. Besides educational facilities and academic high scores, it is the level of placements that have proved to be a big draw with Invertis.
