Simplicity has its own virtues and this fact hits you with full force when you meet Sapna and Ashish Massey, owners of Nave Technical Institute and Inter College in Shahjahanpur. Deeply religious and actively involved in minority affairs, having been Chairman of the State Minority Commission, his membership extends to various church bodies and he also plays a prominent role in many Christian institutions spread all over the state. Today, among other such weighty responsibilities Ashish is National Coordinator for Rashtriya Isaai Sangh and Chairman, UP Minority Council in Lucknow. The list of books he has authored is truly mind-blowing in their range of content. From Journalism to Islam, Environment to Career Guidance, he has penned a rich collection of text that can very well serve as valuable additions to libraries anywhere. Looking at him one feels the power of thought and vision that find total representation in his institution, that has the distinction of imparting specialized education to people of the region.
His humble beginnings have not deterred him from emerging as a visionary among a few in the state of Uttar Pradesh, who are names to reckon with in the realm of education. "I was just like any other man who wanted to make it big in life. And then came a turning point when I was awarded the Rotary Fellowship that took me to America," he says with satisfaction. "That exposure made me realize that what we lacked was education, the single biggest reason for the backwardness of our country. This gave me the kind of push that made me come up with Nave as a solution," he adds. Albeit limited to Shahjahanpur and its adjoining areas, today the difference it has made to innumerable families is truly palpable.
"It is his never-say-die spirit that makes him stand apart in a crowd," says Sapna with obvious pride. "He pushes himself to the maximum till he gets what he wants, " she elaborates, a quality that she thinks has actually made him make a mark. His staffers exude a kind of confidence in him that can only come from mutual trust. In addition to this, in an effort to take them forward professionally, Ashish majorly encourages multi-tasking, which he thinks is the only way in which one can climb higher.
Ashish on the other hand, on assessing his skills, finds his power to communicate effectively as his main asset. "I got support because I was able to convey my thoughts appropriately whenever I appealed or put forward my point of view at any forum. Also, I have been persistently adamant on many issues," he smiles. His ultimate strength, however, is his wife Sapna. "I have been more than just supported by her, the love of my life, at every step," he confides.
